Fires Creek Recreation Area

Nantahala National Forest area north of Hayesville. Bristol Campground there takes horse campers and has 6 free first-come sites, horse tethering posts and a vault toilet, but no potable water. Riders use forest roads, about 19 miles of horse trail, and the sections of the 25-mile Fires Creek Rim Trail that are open to horses. Open year round.
